Dr. (Mrs.) E. O. Idowu

Ag. HOD, Zoology and Environmental Biology

Dr. E. O. Idowu hails from Agbado Ekiti in Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. She obtained the West African Examination School Certificate in 1987 with good grades, the B. Sc. (Hons) degree in Zoology (1992) with a Second Class (Upper Division) from Ondo State University, now Ekiti State University. She later proceeded to the University of Ibadan where she obtained Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree (1999) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) degree, 2007 in Zoology with specialization in Fisheries and Hydrobiology. Dr. Idowu obtained a certificate in Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries from the Centre for Development Innovation, Wageningen, Netherlands in October, 2015

She observed the National Youth Service Corps Scheme (NYSC) at Yankari National Park, Bauchi, Nigeria from 1993 to 1994. Dr Idowu started her teaching carrier in 1994 and taught Integrated Science and Biology at JSS and SSS Classes in different Secondary Schools of Ekiti State.

She lectured briefly at Covenant University, College of Science and Technology, Department of Biological Sciences, Ota, Ogun State from December, 2007 to January, 2008 before she joined the service of Ekiti State University in February, 2008 as Lecturer II. She has since risen through the ladder of academics over the years. Dr Idowu is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Zoology and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Science where she teaches basic Zoology, Fisheries and Hydrobiology courses both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

My interest in fish biology led to several studies on the food and feeding habits, age and growth, as well as reproductive biology of many fish species in many water bodies in Nigeria. These studies provided very useful information for rational exploitation and management of the fish species in the various water bodies.
