The Senate of the University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAD) approved the commencement of the SLT program in 1997 as a part-time program with a view to awarding national and higher national diplomas under the body of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) program.
The Senate also, at its 167th regular meeting on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, ratified the conversion of the SLT program from a diploma certificate to a B.Sc. degree certificate.
At the 187th regular meeting of the Senate held on August 25, 2010, the conversion to a full-time program of Science Laboratory Technology from part-time was approved.
The National University Commission, after a resource assessment visit, approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the SLT (B.Sc.) program effective from 2013/2014 admission, as per Ref NUC/05/395/Vol.5/151 dated February 19, 2013. Thus, the full-time program started with five options:
(a) Biological Science/Biotechnological Techniques
(b) Biochemistry Techniques
(c) Chemistry Techniques
(d) Physics/Electronics Techniques
(e) Geology/Mining Techniques
