HOD’s Welcome Address

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at Ekiti State University, one of the pioneering Departments since the inception of the university.

Chemistry is one of the foundations and backbones of science. It deals with the nature and properties of matter and the principles governing the reactions within and between them.  The curriculum for Chemistry in Ekiti State University is designed to produce graduates with good understanding of the basic principles of Chemistry and its applications and to help in producing self-reliant graduates who are well equipped and employable in virtually all types of industries both at the national and international levels. The chemistry program would foster in the undergraduate an appreciation of the centrality of chemical science to human well-being, as well as its inevitable linkage to, and interactions with, other branches of science.

 The Department has grown from its humble beginning as one of the basic experimental physical sciences. Both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Department are designed to allow a judicious blending of theoretical concepts with their applications in a growing scientific world. The Department services all science-based Faculties in the University and offers Degrees leading to B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil./Ph.D., and Ph.D. The Department runs a postgraduate program in Analytical, Organic/Natural Products, Physical, Inorganic, and Environmental Chemistry. It is endowed with seasoned and qualified academic staff of great pedigree in their various areas of specialization.

A strong collaboration exists among inter-disciplinary research and consultancy studies, especially with cognate departments and faculties inside and outside the university community.
