Dr. Segun Ajayi Akinyemi specializes in environmental geochemistry and fossil fuels. In 2002, he was appointed as a graduate assistant. He obtained both M.Sc. (2008) and Ph.D. (2011) from the prestigious University of the Western Cape, South Africa. His Master of Science (M.Sc.) program was sponsored by the German DAAD Postgraduate Scholarship for Sub-Saharan Africa (2005–2007). The doctoral research was supported by ESKOM/SASOL, South Africa, from 2009 to 2011. He conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Venda’s School of Environmental Science in South Africa from 2015 to 2016 after being awarded a German DAAD Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for Sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Akinyemi rose through the ranks to become a reader in 2019. He had been the Ag. Head of the Department of Geology at two different times and is currently the Ag. Head of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology since 2023. He had published many articles in reputable international journals. Dr. Akinyemi is a member of the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG) and the Nigerian Mining and Geoscience Society (NMGS).
