Dr. Akomolafe Seun Funmilola received her B.Sc. (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University), Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, in 2005. She obtained her M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry (Membrane Biochemistry) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, in 2009, and earned her PhD. in Applied Biochemistry from The Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria, in 2015. She is currently an Associate Professor in the department. Dr. Akomolafe has published over 95 articles in reputable international journals, with over 1600 citations in Google scholar, and a Scopus H-index of 16. She has presented both oral and poster papers at numerous national and international conferences, including those organized by EKSU, the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB), the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), Pharma-Food Congress, the International Congress on Natural Products Research (ICNPR), the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Drug Discovery Africa, and the International Society of Neurochemistry– American Society of Neurochemistry (ISN-ASN). She has also participated in several local and international workshops and capacity-building programmes. Her research interests include phytomedicine, functional foods and nutraceuticals, with particular emphasis on their application in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, obesity, male infertility, erectile dysfunction, neurodegenerative disorders, and skin-related diseases. Her works focus on elucidating the biochemical and molecular mechanisms through which dietary interventions and medicinal plants promote health and disease prevention. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB), the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA), the American Society of Neurochemistry (ASN), the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), the Royal Society of Chemistry (United Kingdom), the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA), Germany, and the Functional Foods and  nutraceuticals Association of Nigeria (FF&N). She is a recipient of several prestigious awards, fellowships, and research grants, including the TETFund Institutional-Based Research Grants (2014 and 2017), the TETFund National Research Fund (2023), the ISN–ASN Travel Award (2025), and the ULAM-NAWA Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland (2024–2026). She has served as a reviewer for numerous reputable international journals, including Andrologia, BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies, Vegetos, Drug and Chemical Toxicology, Phytomedicine Plus, Phytomedicine, Scientific Reports, and Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy.
